Andrew Scott reacts to fan theories that he inspired the name of Taylor Swift’s new album

Andrew Scott has reacted to the theories that he had inspired the name of Taylor Swift’s new album.

The pop mega-star released her highly anticipated 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, last month.

After the release was announced, fans began to theorise that his Whatsapp group with the singer’s ex Joe Alwyn inspired the name.

In 2022, Joe revealed that a mutual friend created a WhatsApp group with him, Andrew and Paul Mescal called The Tortured Man Club.

Later when speaking to Variety, they explained that Andrew “started the group.”

Paul joked about his pal, saying: “He’s just on it every day. He’s just on it by himself.”

Joe added: “Just messaging himself good mornings.”

Swifties began to assume that her album title was a dig at her ex by referencing this group chat with the three actors.

The Irish star addressed the claims as he insisted that it was a short-lived idea that consisted of just “three texts.”

Setting the record straight, he told Variety: “Let me tell you what that is!… So they were about to play these tortured characters, and I had played a tortured character in Fleabag.”

“It wasn’t about our own characteristics!… I think there were three texts, like, ‘Hey, guys.’ You know those groups that you set up, and they just collapse.”

Andrew added: “Taylor’s new album is sensational!”

“I texted her yesterday to say how amazing it is…I think she is just a force of nature, just an extraordinary human, and this album is really, really amazing,” sharing his thoughts on the singers work.

Last month, the actor opened up about the heartbreaking loss of his mother, which has made his recent success “bittersweet.”

The Irish actor’s beloved mum Nora sadly passed away in March, following a short illness.

The Dublin native has since paid tribute to his late mother and said: “She was the source of practically every joyful thing in my life.”

Andrew opened up about his recent loss to the Sunday Times and said: “Well, you know, you have to — life goes on, you manage it day by day.

“It’s very recent, but I certainly can say that so much of it is surprising and unique, and there is so much that I will be able to speak about at some point.”

He then admitted he’s trying to remain positive and keep himself busy, but his accomplishments have been bittersweet since his mother’s passing.

The actor has received huge praise for his on-screen performances, most recently his role as Tom Ripley in the Netflix adaptation of The Talented Mr. Ripley from Patricia Highsmith.
