Radio stars Dermot and Dave admit they've NEVER spent two weeks apart in the 12 years they've known each other

They are the most popular duo in radio, and now Dermot and Dave have revealed their secret to success – spending all their time together.

Dave Moore and Dermot Whelan have just started their brand new show on Today FM,  and the pair admitted they have never spent more than two weeks apart in the 12 years they’ve worked together.

“We’ve never been apart for more than two weeks in the last 12 years,” Dave said.

“But the way we have fallen into a pattern is we don’t actually hang out that much outside of radio.”

“It might sound a bit weird because we are absolutely best mates, we talk a lot and text a lot but we don’t go out on couples dates or our kids hang out very often.”

“We each have a life away from each other but when we come into work it’s such a pleasure to be there working with your best mate,” he told the Irish Mirror.

Dave added that the pair “have never had a proper fight” since they started working together.

The pair just took over from Louise Duffy at Today FM, leaving their usual spot on 98FM. Dave said they are better together than apart.

“Individually we are terrible human beings but put us together and we make one good person. That’s why our show is a success.”

Although they are known for their humour and easy going attitude, Dermot admitted it was scary taking on such a big show.

“When we walked in here in August we met all our radio superheroes. They all really welcomed us.”

“It’s been really good because guys like Ian (Dempsey) and Ray (D’Arcy) have gone out of their way to endorse us on a public and personal level,” he said.

“But after being off air for two months, we were dying to get back. For me it is a bit like stand-up – if you take too long of a break you start to lose your nerve.”

“It is nerve-wracking here in a general sense. Following Ray D’Arcy and ahead of Tony Fenton it is an amazing place to be and a massive opportunity.”

Dermot said: “It’s a massive opportunity and we feel we are the men for the job.”
