This is how much Irish Netflix users will have to pay for password-sharing

Are you still using your ex’s Netflix, or logged in to a friend’s account? Then we have some bad news for you…

Netflix has officially begun sending emails to Irish customers who are sharing their accounts with people “outside their household”.

Earlier this year, the streaming giant began cracking down on password-sharing by rolling out paid sharing in Canada, New Zealand, Spain and Portugal.

As part of those plans, the primary Netflix user has had the option to add two more people outside of their homes to the plan for an additional fee.

The streaming giant has said that a Netflix account is “for use by one household, and those who wish to password-share must pay an additional monthly fee of €4.99.

On Tuesday, Netflix shared a statement, which read: “Starting today, we will be sending this email to members who are sharing Netflix outside their household in Ireland.”

“A Netflix account is for use by one household.”

“Everyone living in that household can use Netflix wherever they are – at home, on the go, on holiday – and take advantage of new features like Transfer Profile and Manage Access and Devices,” the statement continued.

“We recognise that our members have many entertainment choices.”

“It’s why we continue to invest heavily in a wide variety of new films and TV programmes – so whatever your taste, mood or language or whoever you’re watching with, there’s always something satisfying to watch on Netflix.”

Netflix revealed that in order to share accounts, customers could “transfer a profile” to a “new membership that they pay for” or buy an additional membership for €4.99 per month.
