Singer Mary Black has revealed she understands why her children Danny O’Reilly and Roisin O deliberately distanced themselves from her on their road to fame.
The No Frontiers singer admitted that her kids didn’t want to be known as Mary Black’s offspring and were worried people would think they were given special treatment because of their industry connections.
“Roisin has toured with me before in Japan and the UK and was with me in the States before Christmas. She’s known as Roisin O; there’s no mention that she’s my daughter,” she said.
“That’s fine: she wants to prove herself in her own right do her own thing. Her and Danny didn’t want people to think they’re only there because of who their mother is, and that’s totally understandable.”

Meanwhile, the Dublin native has revealed she is planning a “last call” tour overseas as a final farewell to her international fans.
“I’ll be doing a ‘last call’ tour abroad – saying goodbye to all the places I’ve been to. I feel the time is right to give up the real road of travelling,”  she told the RTE Guide.
“I’ll continue to sing in Ireland if the opportunity arises, if a one-off thing feels right. But the touring abroad, I’m calling it a day.”

Mary, 59, admitted she spent a lot of time away from Danny and Roisin when they were younger, but revealed that she plans to make time for her grand children.
“I also have two lovely granddaughters I want to spend more time with,” she said.
“I want to be a hands-on grandmother, like my mother was. I don’t want them growing up and half-knowing me, only seeing me every few weeks.”
