Sile Seoige relieved charity Xmas single wasn't cover – as people would feel she ruined it

TV star Sile Seoige has revealed she was worried that her charity Christmas single would end up being a cover – that she would ruin.

The ex-Newstalk presenter stopped told of her relief that her charity single, Maybe This Christmas, was an original song.

“Through conversation with [songwriter Brian Flanagan] saying I wanted to do this, I just presumed I would do a cover of something; I wanted it to be non-obvious”, the 35-year-old said.

Gang: Sile roped all her celebrity friends in to recording

“I didn’t want to take something that was so well loved by people and then have people go ‘I don’t really want to hear her version of it because it’s not as good as the original.’

“Next day he rang me and said ‘I’m gonna send you something, see what you think.’

“So he sent me a verse and the chorus of the song as it is and I was absolutely enchanted by it from the first line, I just had goosebumps and I knew we were onto something really special.”

High hopes: Sile hopes people will get behind the single

Sile also revealed her worries of raising money from the single, despite famous names such as Kathryn Thomas, Brian Kennedy and Caroline Morahan attached.

“It would be very naïve to think ‘Oh it’s a great song, it’ll do well’,” she told the Ray D’Arcy Show.

“I believe in the song, I believe the song is really good but that doesn’t matter…trying to make a few bob for the charities is a tough one, particularly nowadays. We really need to make noise and get behind the song.”
