Hozier: 'I was asked to sing Take Me To Church for a maximum security PRISON'

Wicklow singer Hozier has revealed he was bizarrely asked to sing in a prison by a pastor.

The international star admitted he’s been asked to do some odd gigs since his success.

“It has been crazy and still my head has been spinning and it’s been so busy I haven’t really had time to reflect on it, you just have to keep moving,” Hozier revealed.

“Sometimes (gigs are) just not a good fit there’s been some funny ones, I was once asked to do a Maximum security prison as kind of a rehabilitation programme.

“That was ran by a Pastor they wanted me to sing Take Me To Church to the prisoners, maybe he was coming at it from a different place,” he said.

Speaking to Pat Kenny on UTV Ireland’s debut show Out With The Old In With The U, Hozier added that performing at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was surreal.

“They are very, very beautiful women. It was nothing I’ve ever done before. I’m used to playing to relatively small audiences behind a guitar, backstage the atmosphere was amazing,” he said.

Hozier added that sharing a stage with Taylor Swift was “a very sureal experience.”

Looking forward to 2015 Hozier said he will constantly be on the road, and admitted he misses his friends and family during his hectic tour dates.

“I’ll be on the road for the majority of 2015. ..One of the most saddest and most difficult parts about being on tour is not being able to keep in touch with friends and family,” he said.
