Danny O'Reilly: 'The band really looked after me through my break up with Laura Whitmore'

Danny O’Reilly has admitted he has no idea if ex-girlfriend Laura Whitmore has heard the new album from his band The Coronas.

The new record The Long Way contains songs about his public breakup with the MTV presenter, and admitted last week that he was “heartbroken” when penning the lyrics.

When asked if Laura has heard the break up songs Danny said: “I’ve no idea, I’ve no idea, I’ve no idea.”

“You do absolutely (think about her listening to it) but at the same time I’ve got to be careful, there’s songs about everything on there it’s not just break up songs,” he added.

Speaking to Ray D’Arcy on his Today FM show, Danny said his band mates were a huge help to him during their emotional split.

“In fairness the boys are great, we have a great little support unit and Jim (our manager) as well.

“It’s great. In fairness when I first went through the bad time that was going on we were actually touring.

“And the boys were really really good to me and looked after me. And we do that to each other when anyone’s feeling down,” he said.

The Long Way has already gone straight to number 1 in the Irish iTunes charts and has been released in the UK today.

Speaking about the new songs Danny said he’s always been honest with his song writing.

“It’s always just the way you feel one day, whatever I say in my lyrics is just the way I felt that day and it doesn’t mean I felt that way the next day.

“And that’s why there’s some happy songs and there’s some sad songs and that’s the way it goes.

“I was always honest. Our first ever single was about sleeping all day and drinking all night and that’s just the way I am as a song writer.

“I always write honest lyrics and go at it,” he admitted.

Meanwhile Danny revealed the band’s new deal with Long Island Records, which is apart of Universal Music, is for five albums.
