Christy Dignam: 'I fear this will be my last Christmas – as my cancer is incurable'

Aslan star Christy Dignam believes this may be his last Christmas – and fears cancer will soon take his life.

The Dublin singer is batting incurable cancer but refuses to spend his time angry that he has been saddled with the disease.

He said: “I wondered this week ‘Is this my last Christmas because the cancer I have is incurable?’

“It’s just a matter of trying every day to hold it back. There is simply nothing that can be done but you don’t waste your days wondering ‘why me?’ That’s just the way it is.”

The 53-year-old is now worried that his family will be left with huge debt when he dies.

Last year, the Irish music industry – including U2 and Jedward – came together to put on a charity night towards his medical bills and he fears there will have to be a second.

He told the Irish Sun: “It’s not something I’d necessarily want. The first one could never really be repeated but I might be forced into it.”

He added: “Sometimes I’d prefer to stay at home and not gig but financially I have no choice. If you want me to be really honest with you … family is all I really think about now.

“I don’t want to die leaving them a load of bleedin’ bills. I am going to try and sort all that out before I go.”
