The Irish win big at British Film Awards – with Brendan Gleeson taking home Best Actor

Irish films Frank and Calvary have both won awards at the British Independent Film Awards

Brendan Gleeson, who stars as Father James in Calvary won Best Actor, beating off stiff competition from the likes of Benedict Cumberbatch, who was nominated for his role in The Imitation Game.

And Brendan wasn’t the only Irish winner on the night.

Delighted: Brendan took home the gong for Best Actor

Lenny Abrahamson’s movie Frank, which stars Michael Fassbender and Domhnall Gleeson won Best Screenplay.

Jon Ronson and Peter Straughan accepted the award for writing the smash hit indie movie.

Meanwhile Dublin actor Andrew Scott was celebrating after he won Best Supporting Actor.

Andrew won for his latest film Pride, which also took home the gong for Best British Independent Film.

The Sherlock star is still on a high after being announced as apart of the cast for the new James Bond film out next year.

Other winners on the night included Benedict Cumberbatch, who received the Variety Award.

And British actress Emma Thompson received the Richard Harris award.
