Netflix users have the same complaint about Prince Andrew film Scoop

Netflix’s new movie about Prince Andrew’s infamous Newsnight interview has finally hit the streaming service.

Back in 2019, the Duke of York sat down with BBC Newsnight’s Emily Maitlis to discuss his controversial friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The televised interview caused a global storm, as Prince Andrew’s bizarre explanations were ridiculed in the press and on social media.

Five years on, Scoop aims to dissect the car crash interview through the lens of the three women who made it possible.

The newsroom drama, directed by Philip Martin, is based on the book Scoops: Behind the Scenes of the BBC’s Most Shocking Interviews by former BBC guest booker Sam McAlister.

McAlister is played by Billie Piper in the film, who stars alongside Gillian Anderson, who portrays Maitlis.

Meanwhile Rufus Sewell takes on the role of Prince Andrew.

While the film has received mostly positive reviews online, viewers have been left repulsed by an “unnecessary” moment in Scoop.

In the scene, Prince Andrew is preparing to watch the Newsnight interview air on BBC Two when he decides to have a bath instead.

However, the Duke of York is depicted in a panic as he starts hearing his phone repeatedly buzzing in the other room.

He is then seen getting out of the bath, with his bare bum on display.

One viewer tweeted: “Rufus Sewell is very good; the writing is very self-regarding; showing Prince Andrew‘s bum is very unnecessary.”

Another commented: “Did we really need to see Prince Andrew’s bare a***?”

Rufus Sewell, who played Andrew in the film, wore a prosthetic bum for the scene in question.

He told the Radio Times: “It’s not that I’m ashamed of my own. I get it out whenever I get the chance — but this bum was specially shipped in.”

The film also stars Keeley Hawes, Romola Garai and Connor Swindles.
