Filming for Bridget Jones 4 ‘thrown into chaos after cast member suffers nasty injury’

The filming for Bridget Jones 4 has reportedly been “thrown into chaos after cast member suffers nasty injury.”

Titled Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy, the fourth instalment is set for release on Valentine’s Day in 2025.

The film will be adapted from Helen Fielding’s 2013 novel of the same name and will see Renée Zellweger and Hugh Grant return to the iconic franchise.

Filming for the film has been happening across London as Renée has been spotted filming the scenes in the city.

According to The Sun, an actor suffered an injury away from the set where they were sent to hospital as they had broken a bone.

This has caused scheduling issues for the production.

A source told the publication: “It’s a total disaster. This has all been so devastating for the entire cast and all the hardworking staff who were down to work.”

“They’d been due to shoot some of the film’s most important scenes and then they suffered this setback after a really unfortunate accident.”

“Filming for the scenes might not start again until at least July, so the schedule has taken a hit.”

“They’ve got a tight window, especially with having to work around the busy diaries of A-listers,” they added.

Mark and Bridget finally got married in the third movie Bridget Jones’ Baby

As fans of the books will know, Mad About the Boy is set four years after the previous instalment – and sees Bridget a widow with two small children, after her husband Mark Darcy is killed by a landmine in Sudan.

Sadly, this means the film won’t feature Bridget’s beloved husband Mark, played by Colin Firth, but he may appear in some flashback scenes.

Renée Zellweger will return as the lead character Bridget in the film, while Leo Woodall is set to play her much younger love interest, as she dabbles in the world of online dating.

The British heartthrob, best known for his roles in Netflix’s One Day and HBO’s The White Lotus, is set to play a 30-year-old man who Bridget starts sleeping with following her bereavement.

A source told The Sun: “Bridget is going to be a real cougar in the new film and she’ll be seen starting a relationship with a much younger character played by Leo.

“He was thrilled about landing the part and will have a major role as her love interest in Mad About The Boy.

“Bridget is a single mum trying to navigate a new world of social media and dating apps after Mark’s death, so she’s definitely going to end up in a pickle.”

“Hugh Grant is back as Daniel Cleaver, so there will be a love triangle between Bridget’s older flame and this much younger new man.”

Renée Zellweger and Hugh Grant in Bridget Jones’ Diary

In a recent interview, Hugh said the script for the fourth Bridget Jones film is one of the best he’s read “in a long time”.

The 63-year-old played Bridget’s lothario ex Daniel Cleaver in the first two films but didn’t appear in 2016’s Bridget Jones’s Baby.

His character was killed off in a plane crash, however, a newspaper headline at the end of the film teased that he was actually found alive.

The actor told Entertainment Tonight: “I’ll tell you what, I think this script for the fourth Bridget is the best one of the four. And, in fact, one of the best scripts I have read in a long time.”

“It’s based on trying to bring up two children alone, and then [it’s] all mixed up in the Bridget Jones [style] comedy, so its very sad, as well as very funny. It has me in tears.”

“Hopefully, we’re not too ancient. I don’t do much now, I’ve just got a few scenes,” he added.

Emma Thompson, who played Bridget’s witty doctor in the third film, is also returning for the fourth instalment.
