WATCH: Simon Biles bursts into tears over Tokyo Olympics in new documentary trailer

American gymnast Simone Biles is seen in tears in the official trailer for her new documentary.

Coming to Netflix on July 17, the two-part series titled Simone Biles Rising chronicles her return to the Olympic competition.

The synopsis reads, “Follow gymnast Simone Biles as she balances her personal life, mental health journey and training ahead of a highly anticipated return to the olympics.”

The series follows the events after the 27-year-old withdrew from numerous events during the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics.

At the time, the athlete suffered “the twisties,” a phenomenon which temporarily affected her spatial awareness and led her to withdraw from five of her six finals to focus on her mental health.

In the trailer, Simone is seen in tears as she speaks to the camera and seemingly makes the decision to stop competing.

Simone says, “So, having these mental blocks in the gym recently…”

The trailer shows clips of the performance that led to her withdrawal, with a voiceover stating, “Simone Biles is out of the competition tonight.”

Simone also recounts her experience with social media after she decided to take a break from competing.

Telling the camera, “People love to watch the come-up, but as soon as you win? ‘God I hate her.'”

“I wanted to quit like 500,000 times. And I would have if it weren’t for my people,” Simone says in the trailer, which includes interviews with her new husband, American football star Jonathan Owens.

Jonathan and Simone tied the knot in April 2023 in a courthouse wedding.

At the end of the two-minute trailer, Biles says: “I get to write my own ending.”

The first part of the series is set to premiere on 17 July, ahead of the Paris Olympics.
