Angelina Jolie is backing an empowering Irish-made film from Cartoon Saloon.

The Kilkenny based animation studio has created award winning films like Song Of The Sea and The Book Of Kells, and even created a short film in aid of Temple Street’s Children Hospital.

“She firmly believes in the film and is very excited about it,” Cartoon Saloons Chief Operations Officer Catherine Roycroft said.

The film will help promote and highlight education and empowerment for women in the Middle East.

“She is really involved in giving feedback and advice on an issue that she deeply cares about,” Catherine said in a statement.

“She really works hard for education and empowerment for women in the Middle East so wants to push the film and send out the strongest message possible.

“To make the film as authentic as possible, we’ve used the voices of people who either come from or were born in Afghanistan for the characters.”

The film will head to Canada for post-production in early 2017 but children will be able to have a taste of how an animated film is made this month.

Cartoon Saloon will be on hand at the country’s premier art fair Art Source to meet Ireland’s future animators on Friday the 11th of November and will give workshops to children on Saturday during the event in the RDS from the 11th of November until the 13th of November.

Admission is €10 adults, €8 for OAPs and children under 16 free only if accompanied by a parent or guardian.
