Bridgerton’s Nicola Coughlan has opened up about filming intimate scenes for the show’s third season.
Season three of the hit Netflix show will see the Irish star take centre stage alongside Luke Newton, as it will follow Penelope Featherington’s quest to find love with the help of the third Bridgerton brother Colin.
While the previous season came under fire for the lack of sex scenes, The Sun has reported that there will be four times more in the latest season, as the Irish star confessed: “I am very naked.”
Speaking on filming those scenes, the actress revealed to the publication: “It was definitely intimidating. Hundreds of millions of people watch the show. That’s really scary.”
“But the sex scenes were one of the things I enjoyed most. Luke and I had a real hand in what we did and how it came across. Thankfully we had that physical comfort with one another, so it ended up being a really beautiful thing.”
“It’s steamy. I was like, ‘Oh wow, are we really doing that?’,” she continued.
“There is one where I am very naked on camera and that was my idea, my choice.”
“It just felt like the biggest ‘f*** you’ to all the conversations surrounding my body. It was amazingly empowering. Having now watched those scenes, I’m so proud of them,” she added.
She also confessed to Radio Times earlier this week: “This industry can be very narrow-minded. Within reason, anyone can play anything. I would never feel like I couldn’t do something.”
“You can change your accent, your hair, your build. If I’m going to play a bodybuilder, I’m going to go to the gym and get hench. People can feel hemmed in, but I feel like I’ve refused to be and I’m going to continue to do so.”
Last month, Nicola and Luke warned fans about the upcoming season of Bridgerton.
When asked about the love scenes in the new episodes of the show, the actress told Australia’s The Sunday Project: “Ah, please don’t watch it with your nan!”
The Irish star added: “My mum watched some the other day and I skipped a sizeable chunk of it. Maybe if you give them Bailey’s before it might be fine.”
“We would not watch it with our nans, I think. Not going to happen,” Luke said.
Nicola agreed: “We don’t want to do it. We have seen it now and that makes us go, absolutely not!”
“It is very romantic this season. It’s fun to play out the story finally. Fans have waited a long time to see their friends-to-lovers (storyline) play out,” he added.

The third season is based on the fourth book from the Bridgerton series by Julia Quinn, Romancing Mister Bridgerton.
The synopsis of the new episodes tells us: “Penelope has finally given up on her long-held crush on Colin after hearing his disparaging words about her last season.”
“She has, however, decided it’s time to take a husband, preferably one who will provide her with enough independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, far away from her mother and sisters. But lacking in confidence, Penelope’s attempts on the marriage mart fail spectacularly.”
“Meanwhile, Colin has returned from his summer travels with a new look and a serious sense of swagger.”
“But he’s disheartened to realize that Penelope, the one person who always appreciated him as he was, is giving him the cold shoulder.”
“Eager to win back her friendship, Colin offers to mentor Penelope in the ways of confidence to help her find a husband this season.”
“But when his lessons start working a little too well, Colin must grapple with whether his feelings for Penelope are truly just friendly.”
“Complicating matters for Penelope is her rift with Eloise, who has found a new friend in a very unlikely place, while Penelope’s growing presence in the Ton makes it all the more difficult to keep her Lady Whistledown alter ego a secret.”
