No stopping him! Jonathan Rhys Meyers joins cast of Roots

Jonathan Rhys Meyers has been cast in American mini-series Roots.

The A+E Networks has lined up the Cork native for the series which is a remake of the iconic 1977 ABC show, which drew critical praise and huge viewership.

The Tudors actor will play Tom Lea, an uneducated slave owner desperate to claw his way into the high society of Southern gentility in four two-hour shows.

According to Deadline.com, Roots is a historical portrait of American slavery which recounts the will of one family’s fight for survival.

Also starring in the show are Oscar winners Forest Whitaker and Anna Paquin.

Meanwhile, the 38-year-old has been cast in the leading role in upcoming movie Shambhala.
