Graham Norton admits he found his dream job in TV completely by accident

Graham Norton has revealed that he discovered TV presenting was his dream job by accident.

The Irish comedian was asked to guest host for Jack Docherty’s chat show on Channel 5 and was immediately hooked.

“I just remember all those years ago when I stood in for Jack Docherty and I was behind the desk and it was just the weirdest thing,” he admitted.

Fluke: Graham discovered his dream job by accident

“It was like, ‘Oh my God, I’ve found my dream, I’ve found my dream job but it’s somebody else’s'”.

Luckily for the Cork native, he didn’t have to wait too long for his dreams to become a reality and began hosting his own show the following year.

“When I got my own show on Channel 4, it was the first time I really cared about something,” he revealed.

TV: Graham’s channel 4 show was the first job he cared about

“I didn’t want to mess it up. I pinch myself that all these years later I am still doing that job – I’ve been lucky enough to weather the various dips and troughs”.

Graham insisted that his A-list guests never behave like “d***s” on his show because they’re being watched by a huge studio audience.

Talking to Digital Spy, he admitted: “In print journalism, if you’re just alone in a room with someone, they can be a dick. They can walk out.”

“But 600 people in the audience, most of these people – no matter what they do, actor, singer, writer – they all have that ‘wanting to be liked’ gene.”

The funny man also admitted he may have landed a huge Hollywood celebrity for the current series of the show, rumoured to be George Clooney.

“I’m not going to jinx it by saying it. As far as I know, they’ve never done a UK chat show, and they’re a big Hollywood A-lister. Those are your clues!” he jested.
