Daniel Day-Lewis' underpants go on display in Dublin

Daniel Day-Lewis’ leopard-print underwear from In the Name of the Father features in a new exhibition at the Little Museum in Dublin.

Curated by renowned costume designer Eimer Ni Mhaoldomhnaigh and costume historian Veerle Dehaene, the expo displays outfits worn by famous actors from Meryl Streep to Pat Shortt.

The Limerick native revealed she wanted to create the exhibit after becoming concerned when she heard that several movie executives were throwing out costumes after production ended.

“I was keeping my own archive of outfits and I knew people that had other stuff, so we pulled it all together,” Eimer said.

Amongst the exciting exhibition is a vintage 1930s dress worn by Meryl Streep in the 1998 Irish flick Dancing at Lughnasa.

“Little by little we were just finding things like the dress, which is just a beautiful sequin number,” Eimer said.

“We kept asking around and Pat Shortt told me he still had the jumper and the cap from his role in Garage, so he just gave us that.

“And, of course, I also still had Daniel Day-Lewis’s underpants from In The Name of The Father,” she added.

There’s is also behind-the-scenes photos of Julia Roberts from the film Michael Collins which show the actress makeup free.

“We had the stills of her before makeup and they show her sitting looking very natural in her potential costume from the film,” Eimer told the Herald.

“She was great to work with, she even had two parties for the crew while she was in Dublin.”
