David McSavage's TV license court case takes surprising twist

Comedian David McSavage has admitted he has “no idea” who bought his TV licence.

Refusing to pay the €160 bill in protest at RTE’s lack of cutting edge comedy, the comic’s court case took a surprising turn when it was revealed that he had in fact a TV license.

“I’ve just found out a licence was bought for me. And I have no idea who bought it,” he told the Irish Sun.

Speaking in the Dublin District Court, a TV license inspector said the RTE star didn’t have a licence when he visited his home last May.

However, the inspector then told the court that a licence was taken out on March 31 this year – leaving a bill of €115 to be paid.

Judge John O’Neill adjourned the case until June 16 – explaining if the bill was paid by then, the case will be struck out.

Bizarrely after the court case, it was announced the Dubliner’s RTE2 series The Savage Eye won Best Comedy at the Celtic Media Festival in Dungarvan.
