Joe Alwyn breaks silence on Taylor Swift split and shuts down cheating rumours

Joe Alwyn has broken his silence on his split from Taylor Swift and shut down cheating rumours.

In April 2023, Entertainment Tonight reported that the couple had called it quits after six years together.

A source told the outlet: “It was not dramatic. The relationship had just run its course. It’s why [Joe] hasn’t been spotted at any [of Taylor’s Era Tour] shows.”

At the time of their breakup, a source told MailOnline: “The bottom line for the difficulties in their relationship was that Taylor’s career took priority over Joe’s – which can be awkward for a couple when it’s not balanced.”

“This drove them apart and ultimately, they both realized they were not on the same page anymore.”

“It’s been hard for Joe trying to make it in Hollywood and not quite becoming leading man material while dating one of the most famous women in the world over the last six years.”

However, exactly one year after their breakup Taylor released her new album The Tortured Poets Department and rumours of Joe’s infedelity began.

Many fans believed that Taylor had written the song The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived about the 32-year-old actor to send cryptic clues for fans to muse over possible infidelity in their relationship.

Her lyrics are: “And you’ll confess why you did it/ And I’ll say good riddance/ Cos it wasn’t sexy once it wasn’t forbidden/ You didn’t measure up in any measure of a man/ I would have died for your sins but instead I just died inside/ You deserve prison, but you won’t get time/ You will slide into inboxes and slip through the bars.“

“In plain sight you hid but you are what you did/ And I’ll forget you, but I’ll never forgive the smallest man who ever lived.”

However, the singer’s publicist Tree Paine strongly denied these allegations.

As did the actor who spoke about their “fully committed” relationship for the first time since their split.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, Joe was asked if he listened to her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, to which he replied: “In thinking on what I was going to say, I would think and hope that anyone and everyone can empathize. … This isn’t a direct answer to your question, but just thinking about what I want to talk about.”

“I would hope that anyone and everyone can empathize and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years,” he continued.

“That is a hard thing to navigate. What is unusual and abnormal in this situation is that, one week later, it’s suddenly in the public domain and the outside world is able to weigh in.”

“So you have something very real suddenly thrown into a very unreal space: tabloids, social media, press, where it is then dissected, speculated on, pulled out of shape beyond recognition.”

“And the truth is, to that last point, there is always going to be a gap between what is known and what is said. I have made my peace with that.”

“As everyone knows, we together — both of us, mutually — decided to keep the more private details of our relationship private. It was never something to commodify and I see no reason to change that now,” Joe added.

“And, look, this is also a little over a year ago now and I feel fortunate to be in a really great place in my life, professionally and personally. I feel really good.”

Answering whether he is still in touch with his ex, Joe added: “I’m sure you can appreciate, given the level of noise and scrutiny about my past relationship, why I wouldn’t want to just open the door to things like that right now.”
