Una Healy reveals battle with depression after welcoming second child

Una Healy has opened up about her battle with depression after welcoming her second child, Tadhg.

The Saturdays star admitted that she started doing “too much, too soon” after giving birth to her son in February of last year – which resulted in her being prescribed anti-depressants.

The Tipperary native, who is married to rugby star Bed Foden, returned to The Voice of Ireland as a judge just weeks after giving birth – and it eventually tipped her over the edge.

“I was doing too much, too soon and even though I loved my time on The Voice, beneath it all, I was struggling,” she told the Irish Daily Mail’s You magazine.

Struggle: Una returned to The Voice too soon after giving birth | RTE

“For any woman to go back to work that soon is hard, but in this industry when there’s an opportunity, it’s difficult to pass it up. I wasn’t feeling myself, I was exhausted and overwhelmed”.

After being prescribed anti-depressants by her GP, the songstress soon found that they weren’t for her – as they made her feel “numb”.

“I went on them for a bit and actually felt worse. I didn’t feel happy or sad, I just felt numb. I didn’t like that at all.

“I had never needed that help before – I suffer a little from anxiety because I’m passionate and I worry about stuff, but I’d never felt depressed,” she added.

Meanwhile, Una is gearing up to perform her debut solo single for the first time on Irish television tonight.
