Jim Carrey has said that he was in love with his late girlfriend Cathriona White “right up until she died”.
The actor submitted court papers responding to the wrongful death suit filed against him by Cathriona’s mother Brigid Sweetman and her estranged husband Mark Burton – who claim that Jim supplied her with the lethal prescription drugs that she overdosed with.
The 54-year-old told how in love he and Cathriona were, after meeting at Guns ’n’ Roses gig in 2012 – and revealed that she only married her estranged husband in order to get a green card, as the make-up artist originally hailed from Co. Tipperary.
“Although Cat and I had our ups and downs as any couple does, we were very much in love. Cat asked me to marry her so she could get a green card and avoid deportation to Ireland. She was someone I truly cared about but I was not prepared to marry her to keep her in this country as she requested,” Jim said, in papers obtained by the Daily Mail.

“She resided with me at my home in Malibu for substantial times when we were a couple. To my surprise I later learned that she had married a man in Las Vegas for her green card.
“Cat was regularly at my home in January 2013, I was supporting her financially. We were very much in love.”
The actor also told how he never had any idea that she was married, proving that the marriage was a sham.
“I never met her green card husband Mark Burton until after her death, nor did she discuss with me any details of her marriage while she was alive.
“Nor did she ever tell me that she had a wedding, or that she had been courted by Mr Burton. She never wore a wedding ring.

“Cat’s mother recently confirmed to me in an email that her and her entire family were aware that the wedding to Mr Burton was fake,” he added.
Jim later later stated in his declaration that a week before Cathriona commit suicide, she became ‘aggravated’ with him because of the time he was spending with his daughter, who was in hospital as she had to undergo ’emergency surgery.’
Jim claims that the Cathriona moved her belongings out of his home, and was found dead a few days later. The star also denied that he ever gave Cathriona any sexually transmitted diseases, which had previously been claimed by her estranged husband.
