The newly revamped series of Top Gear has come to an end – but with ratings lower than ever.
According to RTÉ TEN, the show, fronted by Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc, pulled in a mere 1.9 million viewers for the last episode of the season – considerably lower than previous seasons starring old co-hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.
Although the episode aired at the same time as the Euro 2016 match between Iceland and France – it still doesn’t spell good things for the show’s future.
Bad news: Top Gear hit a ratings low | BBC
Chris previously said he’d be “disappointed” if the show pulled in less than five millions viewers.
The news comes after rumours have been rife that Matt and Chris haven’t been getting along as co-hosts, as Matt reportedly threatened to quit if Chris wasn’t fired.
Meanwhile, people have taken to Twitter to call for a change in Top Gear, and plenty advised the show to give Chris Evans the boot. Yikes.
I’ll be more than surprised if Top Gear returns with Chris Evans and the same style. Something’s gotta change.

@BBC_TopGear I was nervous before this series began, how do you replace the greats? Matt LeBlanc is your answer, Chris Evans….is not.

Oof. It must be all over for Chris Evans. Final episode of Top Gear gets an average of just 1.92m. Antiques Roadshow managed 3.86m…

Watching last night’s Top Gear. Chris Evans voice just makes me want to stroke his face with a cheese grater. #passtheearplugs

I find it hilarious that #TopGear loses viewers each week. Just get rid of Chris Evans and the show is already better in every way

So the new @BBC_TopGear has finished. @achrisevans needs to take a backseat, and let Rory, Chris and Le blanc run the show. #TopGear

I wonder if Chris Evans still thinks that @BBC_TopGear is a resounding success #NewsFlashItsShit
