U2 are being persuaded to make their first TV performance in years on the X Factor by Simon Cowell.
The TV music mogul is rolling up his sleeves in a bid to attract the biggest acts in the world to play during the live shows.
Goss.ie has learned Simon wants massive names to ensure that audiences pick the X Factor over Strictly Come Dancing when they both hit their peak.

Now Simon is trying to persuade U2 and their record label that the ITV show is the best place to perform their new material on TV first.
“The X Factor has always prided itself on having some of the biggest acts in the world performing during its Sunday night show,” a source told Goss.ie.
“But for Simon this year that isn’t enough – people like Rihanna will always come to the X Factor. This year he wants the biggest acts in the world.”

“U2 are on his list – and given they haven’t released a new album in so long, it would be a huge coup to make the X Factor the place for their TV return. It could take a lot of persuasion though.”
It is understood that Simon has also been in contact with Madonna in an attempt to bring her to the series.
U2 are expected to release new music by next month at the latest, after closing down a Dublin bridge recently to film their new music video.
