Prince Harry cuts ties with the UK as he officially changes his primary residence

Prince Harry has listed his primary residence as the US for the first time in documents filed in the UK.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been living in California since March 2020, when they quit their roles as senior working royals.

The change was revealed in a filing for the Prince’s sustainable tourism charity Travalyst, and showed the change was made on 29th June, 2023.

The day in which the change was made is the same day that Buckingham Palace confirmed the Duke and Duchess had left Frogmore Cottage – their last home in the UK.

The cottage was a gift from the late Queen Elizabeth II to her grandson, for which the pair paid £2.4 million on renovations.

Harry and Meghan Markle were asked to move out of the cottage close to Windsor Castle weeks after he criticised the Royal family in his bombshell book, Spare.

Released in January of 2023, the tell-all memoir made many shocking claims about the British Royals, and detailed the Duke of Sussex’s falling out with his family.

The Prince detailed his reasoning for leaving the Royal family while on The Late Late Show with James Corden back in 2020.

He admitted to there being a “toxic” environment, and revealed: “It was never walking away. It was stepping back rather than stepping down. It was a really difficult environment, as I think a lot of people saw.”

“We all know what the British press can be like. And it was destroying my mental health. I was like… ‘this is toxic’.”

CHRIS JACKSON FOR CLARENCE HOUSE

As a founder of the non-profit Travalyst, Harry must make the Companies House aware of any major changes to his circumstance – such as a change in permanent residence.

The not-for-profit group was founded in 2019 and aims to provide “credible, consistent sustainability information” using groups such as Booking.com.
