Paddy and Christine McGuinness set to film documentary about raising children with autism

Paddy and Christine McGuinness are set film a documentary about raising children with autism.

The presenter and the model share twins Penelope and Leo, seven, and four-year-old Felicity, who have all been diagnosed with autism.

Christine has been open about her children’s struggles on social media, and she will now give an insight look into the challenges her family face in a BBC documentary entitled ‘Autism and Our Family’.

According to The Sun, the couple will meet with other parents, leading paediatricians and child-development experts to discover more about their children’s condition.

Appearing on a recent episode of the Lockdown Parenting Hell podcast, Paddy explained: “For me as parent who has children with additional needs, you feel, a little bit, that everyone else is having a really good time apart from me.”

“When I see other people in the same situation or people, in a weird and perverse way, worse off than you, you kind of feel, ‘Oh well, at least I’m not dealing with that’. Weirdly it makes you feel a little bit better or that I’m not on my own with this.”

The Take Me Out host added: “I felt doing a documentary about the condition and how we deal with things, hopefully people will watch and go ‘well, if he’s going through that, then I shouldn’t be ashamed or worried about getting help in’.”

“[People think] ‘He’s on telly and got money so he shouldn’t have those sorts of worries’ – but I do. It’s just important as much information you can get out there about anything like that is a help.”

The news comes after Christine revealed that her three children have become “more physical” with her during lockdown.

The 32-year-old shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp message she sent to a friend, which reads: “I totally understand, all three of mine have got more physical with me and each other recently, it’s awful 💔.”

“I barely recognise them sometimes and I just paint a smile on like everything is fine. Thinking of you lots, stay strong. This time will pass.”

In the caption, the model mum wrote: “Day 1 : Lockdown 3. This may or may not help anyone but this is ‘real life’ I just want to let my SEN families know you are not alone, I hear you, I understand.”

“For me personally I feel good, I am very head strong and I love to stay positive but I can’t deny what these lockdowns are doing to my children 😭 my children are not the same little people they were this time last year 💔.”

“The pandemic is affecting everyone differently, wether it’s your business, your mental health, a loss of life.. Covid is hitting everyone hard in different ways it’s heartbreaking,” she continued.

“I pray every day 🙏 I hope it passes soon. Thinking of you all, sending love and light to each and every one of you ❤️ (This image is a message I sent to one of my SEN mummy friends this morning) In it together.”
