TV3 axe Midweek for new Primetime evening show to compete with UTV Ireland

TV3 have announced they have comissioned a brand new Primetime evening show that will go live the same month as UTV Ireland launch their channel.

The broadcaster have revealed that the new current affairs show will air from January 2015, the same month UTV Ireland go live.

In a statement TV3 said they have hired a brand new presenter to be the face of the show:

“A major new production team will be assembled for the new weeknight show comprising of a number of TV3 reporters and anchored by a new name, still to be revealed.”

“A new Primetime early evening show will air weeknights from January and add over 127 hours of Irish home produced content to the stations 2015 schedule.

“A new anchor host has yet to be announced but this unique show will comprise of some of TV3’s finest reporters, all of whom will report on stories and exciting events from around the country.

“The show will also welcome special guests each night to add an extra dimension to proceedings.

The new show will replace TV3’s Midweek programme, which has been hosted by Colette Fitzpatrick.

“TV3’s Midweek will be replaced to make way for a new Public Affairs Documentary Unit which will produce quality current affairs and topical programming.”

The station also revealed that they are axing 3e’s entertainment programme FYI.

“3e’s news programme ‘fyi’ is to be replaced with 60 second news bulletins throughout the day,” the statement read.

Since announcing new channel UTV Ireland, Managing Director Michael Wilson has always said their main goal was to make a prime time show.
