Pat Kenny has said he doesn’t think giving Ray D’Arcy a prime time RTE show is the best choice.
The former RTE presenter previously hosted the Late Late Show, Kenny Live and Frontline, but said hiring Ray for a new chat show is a gamble.
“If Brendan (O’Connor) was pushed out by RTE it is very strange because he was doing very well,” Pat said.
“But who knows what deal was made with Ray D’Arcy – maybe they had to push Brendan to make room for Ray.

“I just don’t get why you would kill a successful show by Brendan in the hope that Ray would replicate that, because you just can’t be sure.
“It’s been a long time since Ray has done successful television so it’s a gamble,” he told the Herald.
“But maybe the management in RTE feel that their job is to be innovative and try something else – that could be their agenda.”
While RTE have confirmed Ray will host his very own Saturday night entertainment show next season, Pat Kenny’s new show will debut on UTV Ireland next month.
