RTE confirm Love/Hate is OVER for 2015 – but a sixth series is happening

Love/Hate is over and won’t be back on screens next year, RTE have confirmed.

However the State broadcaster are looking at creating a spin-off focusing on some of the remaining characters it has emerged.

RTE Commissioning Editor Jane Gogan confirmed the sad news tonight, which comes after the death of Nidge in the finale.

She said: “RTE can confirm that Love/Hate will not return to screens in 2015.”

However Ms Gogan coyly told the Sunday Independent that “a sixth series is currently in development with the writer”.

Creator Stuart Carolan added that the gangland drama – whose finale got over a million viewers – is over in its “current incarnation”.

He added: “We’re talking about it, we’re having conversations with RTE, we’re having conversations amongst ourselves.

“I look at all those actors and I’d love to keep writing for them in different ways, but the current incarnation of Love/Hate, I think, is over.”

It is understood that the spin-off series will involve some of the remaining characters including Traveller Patrick, played by John Connors.

He added: “If we looked at Love/Hate again, how to do it, we’d have to do it in a very different way.”
