ITV defend Maya Jama over Love Island final blunder

ITV have defended Maya Jama over that Love Island final blunder.

Monday night’s final saw Sammy Root and Jess Harding crowned the winners, having secured 34.57% of the public vote, while runners-up Whitney Adebayo and Lochan Nowacki received 26.85% of the public vote.

Ella Thomas and Tyrique Hyde, who placed third, secured 24.21% of the vote; finally, fourth place couple Molly Marsh and Zachariah Noble received 14.37% of the public vote.

Maya suffered a slip-up, just moments before she announced Jess and Sammy as the winners, during Monday night’s final.

The Love Island host told the audience they were about to see Whitney and Lochan’s best bits, but instead a video of Jess and Sammy played.

Later, while interviewing Jess and Sammy, the presenter told the couple they were about to see their best bits, despite the clip already having aired.

ITV have defended Maya, tweeting: “Guys live television is really difficult please be nice,” and, “Maya is the Queen, smashed it.”

Love Island fans flocked to reply to the broadcaster’s tweet in support of Maya.

One Twitter user penned: Nah it’s honestly just so funny we love Maya 🤣💙.”

A second wrote: “We love Maya.”

Meanwhile, a third tweeted: “Bless her, thought she handled it well. Love Maya.”
