Everything we know about season three of Bridgerton

Bridgerton is finally set to return for a third season this week, after over two years of waiting.

Part 1 of the highly anticipated season joins the streaming platform on May 16, with part 2 following on June 13.

This season will see Penelope Featherington set out to find love with the help of the third Bridgerton brother Colin.

The latest season of the hit Netflix show will see Irish star Nicola Coughlan take centre stage alongside Luke Newton.

Netflix teased about the next instalment: “Dear reader, this author must inquire…what is the primary force that guides us on our paths? Is it our minds, or our hearts? Perhaps we should discover the answer together….”

“Determined to move on from Colin Bridgerton, Penelope Featherington sets out to find a husband, only to receive help from the last person she expects.”

The upcoming season will see the show return to follow the Bridgerton family for the first time in over two years.

The third season is based on the fourth book from the Bridgerton series by Julia Quinn, Romancing Mister Bridgerton.

The synopsis of the new episodes tells us: “Penelope has finally given up on her long-held crush on Colin after hearing his disparaging words about her last season.”

“She has, however, decided it’s time to take a husband, preferably one who will provide her with enough independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, far away from her mother and sisters. But lacking in confidence, Penelope’s attempts on the marriage mart fail spectacularly.”

“Meanwhile, Colin has returned from his summer travels with a new look and a serious sense of swagger.”

“But he’s disheartened to realize that Penelope, the one person who always appreciated him as he was, is giving him the cold shoulder.”

“Eager to win back her friendship, Colin offers to mentor Penelope in the ways of confidence to help her find a husband this season.”

“But when his lessons start working a little too well, Colin must grapple with whether his feelings for Penelope are truly just friendly.”

“Complicating matters for Penelope is her rift with Eloise, who has found a new friend in a very unlikely place, while Penelope’s growing presence in the Ton makes it all the more difficult to keep her Lady Whistledown alter ego a secret.”

We will also see some other familiar faces return, while there will also be some notable absences.

Anthony and Kate Bridgerton are set to return as we get a look into their married life as Viscount and Viscountess.

Simone Ashley, who plays Kate, told Deadline back in March 2022: “Kate and Anthony are just getting started.”

More of our favourite characters will return such as Eloise Bridgerton, Violet Bridgerton, Benedict Bridgerton, Queen Charlotte, and Lady Danbury.

However, Daphne Bridgerton, our star of season one, won’t make an appearance.

Phoebe Dynevor confirmed her character will be absent in the latest season of the show.

She told Screen Rant in January 2023 when asked about her character in Season: “Sadly not in season three. Potentially in the future, but season three I’m just excited to watch as a viewer.”

Last month, Nicola and Luke warned fans about the upcoming season of Bridgerton.

When asked about the love scenes in the new episodes of the show, the actress told Australia’s The Sunday Project: “Ah, please don’t watch it with your nan!”

The Irish star added: “My mum watched some the other day and I skipped a sizeable chunk of it. Maybe if you give them Bailey’s before it might be fine.”

“We would not watch it with our nans, I think. Not going to happen,” Luke said.

Nicola agreed: “We don’t want to do it. We have seen it now and that makes us go, absolutely not!”

“It is very romantic this season. It’s fun to play out the story finally. Fans have waited a long time to see their friends-to-lovers (storyline) play out,” he added.
