Holly Willoughby to be protected by ex-military while filming new Netflix show after kidnap threat

Holly Willoughby will receive extra protection from ex-military personnel while she’s filming for her new Netflix show, after she was previously the target of a kidnap and murder plot.

The presenter will join Bear Grylls and ten celebrity contestants in Costa Rica next month to film the streaming service’s new survival show, Bear Hunt.

But with rising rates of kidnapping and drug crime in the country, Netflix are set to spend £1 million on security to protect Holly and the other stars.

Holly famously quit This Morning back in October, after police uncovered an alleged plot to kidnap and murder her.

The police were tipped off about the plot, after finding what they believed to be a “kidnapping kit” in the home of 36-year-old Gavin Plumb.

He was subsequently arrested and charged over the alleged plot, and will face trial in June.

According to The Sun, ex-special forces and former military personnel will be there to protect Holly and the other celebs from the threat of gangs and kidnapping in the jungle.

A source told the outlet” “Netflix are investing huge sums in creating a show which can rival ITV’s I’m a Celebrity, by bagging big names and choosing a tropical location.”

“But keeping Holly and everyone fully protected in Costa Rica is the priority. That means hiring specialist teams of guards, many of whom will be ex-military and special forces experts.”

“They’ll also need specialist vehicles, safe accommodation and a secure location in which to film.”

“That won’t be straightforward or cheap in a country which has a very luxurious tourist trade combined with a dangerous underbelly.”

The production will then spend extra on security in the jungle – where attacks on bystanders are on the rise.

The stars taking part are set to fly out later this month, with the show expected to begin filming in May.

The series is set for release in January 2025 on Netflix.

Bear Hunt will see 10 celebrity contestants trained in survival skills, before they try to escape capture by survival expert Bear Grylls in the jungle.
