Graham Norton feels chat show is a hit because he doesn't BORE people to death like rivals

Chat show king Graham Norton believes he trounces his rivals – by having all his A-list guests on at once.

The BBC presenter is back tonight with a new series of The Graham Norton Show on BBC1.

And the Cork star feels that unlike his rivals – the Late Late Show and Jonathan Ross – he doesn’t bore people to death.

He added: “It’s a format that makes sense. Stars usually get eight minutes on a chat show to plug their movie and they’d better be funny in those eight minutes. On our show they get several chances to shine.”

And Graham, 51, feels that was especially true last series when he had Matt Damon, Bill Murray and Downton Abbey actor Hugh Bonneville on his couch.

He said: “It was one of those perfect shows where the three guys obviously adored each other and got on well and were in a great mood.

“It was so much fun. I love those evenings when I don’t have to work – I just let it happen. The audience was proper bellylaughing.

“At the end, we all wished it had been the last show of the season so we could go out on a high.”

But sometimes younger stars don’t shine in the way that Graham hopes.

He added: “Sometimes guests just stay nervous. Maybe they’re thinking I’m out to get them or maybe they don’t get the humour and worry we’re laughing at them.”

He added that the two guests he is still hoping to get at some stage are Meryl Streep and Brad Pitt.
