Gay Byrne admits Pat Kenny's new show is too long for just one guest

Gay Byrne has admitted he thinks Pat Kenny’s UTV Ireland show is too long with just one guest.

Pat Kenny: In The Round drew 150,000 viewers for its debut episode featuring GAA boss Mickey Harte, however viewership declined by more than half for the series second episode.

Gay admitted that while he hasn’t watched the show yet, he revealed it would have to be a “very, very special” guest to keep people tuned in.

“It’s a long time to spend with one guest. It would have to be a very, very special one,” he told the Star.

“If you don’t get the outstanding guest, I think it’s just another interview. I’ve told Pat personally that he is on top of his game on radio but I just haven’t seen his show.”

Speaking at the 2015 IFTA Awards, the TV legend revealed it’s nerve wrecking just turning up to the ceremony.

“It’s really gorgeous actually seeing everyone. It’ll be nice to see Aidan Gillen and the other guys too so it’s great,” he said.

“It’s a really important night and it’s a nerve wrecking just even turning up. I’m going to enjoy the night because it’s the last Love/Hate for a lot of us.”
