EXCLUSIVE: Anne Doyle won't return to RTE and take on Pat Kenny's UTV challenge with her own chat show

RTE legend Anne Doyle has insisted she won’t be making a triumphant return to screens to help take on Pat Kenny at UTV Ireland.

The former Late Late Show host shocked Ireland when he was announced as the new host of a current affairs show on the up-start station.

But the 62-year-old vowed she wouldn’t be back on RTE presenting a show just like him and helping fight their friend-turned-enemy.

Asked if she’d present a current affairs show, Anne told Goss.ie: “There are lots and lots of young people coming along. I’ve done my time and I am quite happy with that.

“I very much enjoy the presenters that are there now and as I say there are lots of talented young people coming along so I am happy to be where I am.”

Meanwhile, Anne has insisted that RTE will always have a special place in her heart after working 33 years as news broadcaster.

Speaking at the RTE A Poem for Ireland launch the ex-news presenter admitted in some ways it’s like she never left the broadcasting company.

“I was here for 30 odd years you know and it was lovely actually to come in today and see familiar faces first thing this morning and in an odd way it was like I never left,” she said.

But the former news broadcaster has admitted that she is enjoying her free time that comes with retirement.

“I’ve been enjoying myself, that’s my duty. I’ve had involvement in terms of work bits and pieces that I have enjoyed doing but basically I’ve been very happy being retired,” she said

“I have been doing what I like which is travelling and reading. It’s been fabulous, I’m like a young person travelling and reading. That’s really what I’ve been doing really.”
