Tommy Tiernan speaks out about THAT interview with Vogue Williams

Tommy Tiernan has finally spoken out about THAT interview with Vogue Williams.

The 47-year-old interviewed the Irish model and TV presenter on his hit RTÉ series The Tommy Tiernan Show – but had no idea who she was before she walked on stage.

Despite not knowing who Vogue was, he has nothing but praise for the Dublin-born beauty.

“She has a wonderful manner, Vogue. I think if I had have known stuff about her beforehand I might have been slightly prejudiced,” he said on The Neil Prendeville Show on Red FM.

“I only found out afterwards that she was married to Westlife [former bandmember Brian McFadden]. I live in Galway, I read the Connacht Tribune. That’s it.

“I just don’t tune in to all that. If Leonard Cohen walked in, god be good to him, I’d know him. Or Red Hurley or possibly Richie Kavanagh. But with Vogue, I hadn’t a clue of her.

“One of the things I asked for in the show was no comedians and nobody that I know. I’ve done a chat show before where a comedian was the host and it can turn very competitive, like two piranhas.

“When Russell Howard came on I was very conscious to sit back and let him spread his wings if he wanted to,” he said.

During the same interview, Tommy also admitted to having “huge debts” – despite having his own TV show and being a well-known comedian in both Ireland, the UK and the US.

“I make enough to pay my bills but I don’t make much more than that. I’m a hippy but I spent a long time on the dole. I first signed on down in Cork in 1988 and I was so thrilled at the notion of getting money for nothing.

“I’m in the position where I’ve huge debts, so the money that I make – I make a lot of money – but I don’t see any of it.

“It kinda moves behind me… I don’t really see it but I know there’s enough there to keep me out of prison for the moment,” he added.
