This is why New York Rose Róisín Wiley didn’t get a tiara after winning the Rose of Tralee 2023

New York Rose Róisín Wiley was crowned the 2023 Rose of Tralee on Tuesday, August 22.

The 32 hopefuls who had been vying for the coveted title this year represented the Irish diaspora worldwide.

Róisín, 27, lives in Manhattan and works as a VP of National Sales at a consumer marketing company, managing a territory of OTC and Pharmaceutical accounts.

After host Dáithí Ó Sé announced that Róisín had won Rose of Tralee, the Manhattan native was presented with a bouquet of roses and paraded down the aisle of the Kerry Sports Academy.

Eagle-eyed fans noticed that the New York Rose a bespoke tiara – which is typically designed by either Waterford Crystal and Tipperary Crystal the newly crowned Rose.

The tradition was scrapped by Rose of Tralee bosses in 2022.

Last year’s winner, Westmeath Rose Rachel Duffy, told Radio Kerry of the scrapped tradition: “For all the young girls out there, it’s about developing self-confidence and being okay with being yourself. You don’t need a tiara to be a winner.”

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Rose of Tralee International Festival said: “There is no statement [regarding] a tiara, we’re just following the same process as last year.”
