RTÉ have confirmed that Bryan Dobson is leaving the Six One News after 21 years.
The broadcaster has landed a new role as a permanent presenter on RTÉ Radio 1’s Morning Ireland, the most-listened-to radio programme in Ireland.
Bryan will join Morning Ireland co-presenters Rachael English, Dr Gavin Jennings and Audrey Carville as a main anchor of the RTÉ Radio 1 programme at the end of October.
In addition to presenting Morning Ireland, Bryan will continue to be a key presenter for RTÉ’s television coverage of special state events including the forthcoming Budget 2018.

Speaking about the move for the first time, Bryan Dobson said: “I will greatly miss Six One News but there comes a time to move on and grasp new opportunities.”

Bryan Dobson joined RTÉ in 1987 as a reporter with the RTÉ Radio 1 This Week programme. Later that year he was appointed RTÉ’s Business Correspondent, as well as presenting the television business programme Marketplace.
In 1991 he became presenter of RTÉ One O’Clock News, later moving to present the Nine News programme before being appointed anchor of the Six One News in 1996.
Bryan will join the Morning Ireland team from 30 October. He will continue to co-present the RTÉ Six One News in the interim.
The news comes after Bryan’s Six One News co-host Sharon Nà Bheolain revealed that she earns €80k less than him per year.Â
