Oliver Callan SLAMS Rosanna Davison's 'witch-hunt' against dairy

Oliver Callan has hit out at Rosanna Davison for telling women to stop eating dairy products.

The former Miss World is well known for her love of healthy eating and her recently released cook book Eat Yourself Beautiful topped the bestseller charts after its release.

However, Oliver is not a fan of the Irish model and has criticized her views on dairy and what he sees as the lacklustre writing style of her book.

“The fact that a woman with a famous dad, who earns a chunk of her fortune modelling skimpy outfits gets all the foodie headlines says more about us than it does about her,” he wrote in The Irish Sun.

“Her recipe guide contains more exclamation marks than a comic book and the writing quality is at times as bad as most food guides by celebrities.

“The US Government promotes a daily intake of two-three cups of dairy produce a day depending on your age. The British and Irish Governments’ advice is roughly the same,” he explained.

“Each of these are guided by scientific experts who aim to balance their research with lobbying by farming and dairy groups.”

The comedian pointed out that Rosanna’s area of expertise has not been embraced by many in the nutrition community.

Criticism: Oliver disagrees with Rosanna’s comments on dairy

“Whose advice do you trust? Ms Davison is recently qualified as a naturopathic nutritionist,” he wrote.

“The problem for her is that naturopathy has not been embraced by everybody and her advice against dairy has been heavily criticised.

“Davison’s witch-hunt against dairy is good for her business and gives her publicity on the same subject,” he added.

Oliver also hit out at the people who have bought Rosanna’s book and joked her readers are “not the most discerning bunch”.

“Rosanna’s demographic are the sort of people who photograph themselves on Facebook sitting on a pilates ball with an unread Caitlin Moran book in hand” he said.

“Out of shot is usually a family size bag of Maltesers, a box of white wine and a packet of Kleenex.

“Some of her readers are not the most discerning bunch, so the media happily continues to anoint Ms Davison as an undisputed authority on nutrition.”

Taking into account the ageism of the industry, Oliver admitted he does have some sympathy for models who try to carve out a career for themselves post-modelling.

“Now, it is necessary to have some sympathy with many models. It’s a sexist world where once a woman hits their 30s, they’re treated like they’ve the sex appeal of Betty White,” he wrote.

“It must also be added that few Irish models are ever considered worthy of the European catwalks, because their waists are wider than a two euro coin.

“This is probably why 32-year-old Rosanna and others all have their own food blogs and recipe guides as they prepare for life beyond the best-before-date,” he insisted.

The RTE star said readers should take Rosanna’s advice with a pinch of salt.

“Not only could the disputable dairy claims seriously affect the health of young women who need frequent intakes of calcium, but it could damage an industry that supports thousands of Irish families,” he divulged.

“The best rule is to indulge in moderation — that goes for your intake of Rosanna Davison advice too.”

It’s not the first time Rosanna has come under fire for her comments on healthy eating.

The model was previously slated for an interview she gave which gave the impression that she thought eating gluten could cause autism and schizophrenia.
