Muireann O’Connell opens up about her father’s passing: ‘I think about him all the time’

Muireann O’Connell has opened up about her father’s passing, admitting she thinks about him “all the time”.

The Ireland AM star’s father Brendan sadly died following a battle with cancer in March 2021.

Speaking to RSVP Magazine, Muireann said: “I think about him all the time and try to remember all the good stuff. I can see the bits of myself that are him.”

“There are so many things I do just like dad, and I hear myself sounding like him a lot. It’s lovely to hear his laugh because the family has the same laugh as him,” she continued.

“You never think it’s going to happen and when it does it’s strange because you just assume that your parents are going to be around forever.”

Muireann said it’s been hard to adjust to life since her father’s passing, especially for her mother Marie.

The TV presenter explained: “It’s weird, but it’s the firsts that are pretty tough. Really, it’s about my mother, she is the one who lost the love of her life and it’s pretty raw.”

“She sometimes wakes up and forgets that he’s gone and then it hits her again. I think it’s hard for her every day, but isn’t it great that they had that kind of love?”

“My parents were really social and I can’t remember a night they were in, they were always out playing 45 and bridge.”

“They were a team, together for 52 years, such a long time. And all of a sudden you’re not with your person anymore which is so hard.”

“But she’s fiercely independent. She does her own thing and she was always like that. She’d go off on holidays with friends cause dad wouldn’t fly,” Muireann said.

“I can’t thank her friends and family enough, they’ve been utterly amazing.”
