RTE star Kathryn Thomas has told of her grief at the death of her boyfriend’s mother this week.
The Voice of Ireland star said it has been a sad week after Padraig McLoughlin’s mum Joan died following a short battle with cancer.
She said: “This week has been a tough one. My boyfriend Padraig McLoughlin’s mum Joan passed away after a relatively short battle with cancer.

“She was a wonderful, beautiful lady and I just wish I had got to spend a little more time with her.
“During what was a very sad time, it was incredible to witness friends, family and neighbours coming together to honour and remember a remarkably special person.”
But Kathryn said in her Star column that she loved seeing her boyfriend’s relationship with his mum Joan.

She added: “Padraig had a very close relationship with his mother. They spoke every other day on the phone and I know he is going to miss her terribly.
“To see a family unite and become stronger together in a time of grief is really very powerful. It’s also a reminder of the importance of family and we need to remember that and make more time for them.”
