Karen Koster has admitted that starting a family was never at the top of her “to-do” list.
The Xpose presenter is a new mum to her son Finn with husband John McGuire but was always more focused on her career before tying the knot.
“I never had having kids at the top of my to-do list,” she said.

“I always wanted to get my career on the road in the early days. It’s probably getting a little bit older and really wanting to start a family with John.”
The TV3 host revealed that she expected herself to be a strict, “uptight” mum but was surprised that she’s more relaxed than she anticipated.
“I thought I’d be fairly uptight, but my own mum says that I’m pretty relaxed around him. I’m probably more maternal that I gave myself credit for initially,” she said.

The 35-year-old handed out some advice to fellow first-time parents out there and insisted the most important thing is to “be kind to yourself”.
“I was a lot more nervous than I actually realise when I look back now,” she told The Independent’s Mothers and Babies magazine.
“I think that every day it gets easier. Even if you feel like you’re not making any headway, you actually are, give yourself credit.”
“What I used to find good was at the end of the day, I’d say what went right today. You’re doing a good job so don’t be hard on yourself and be kind to yourself.”
