Joe Duffy admits that news organisations are now ‘under serious pressure’

Joe Duffy has said that news organisations are “under serious pressure in this ever-changing world.”

The broadcaster opened up on the recent RTÉ budget cuts, “They’ve been going on for 10 years now so we are well-used to them. It’s a very lean organisation and a very hard-working organisation.”

He continued to tell The Irish Independent, “We have to keep making programmes every day and just keep it going. Every news organisation is under pressure in this ever-changing world.”

The Ballyfermot native gets paid €416k a year, and he believes that his work ethic has made him one of RTÉ’s highest paid employees.

“I keep on top of things. You have to make sure you know what’s going on. You read a story and think, how can I add to that?

“Look out for calls and judge what ones will be good. That’s the wonderful thing about being a journalist, every person you meet and place you go can come in handy at some stage.”

The radio presenter has recently said that he would be up for starring in next year’s series of Dancing With The Stars.

“I would consider it because Dancing with the Stars looks like great craic and has a great atmosphere about it. I would definitely consider it but we will have to wait and see.”

“I was approached for the first season of Dancing with the Stars but the filming commitments I had for Liveline: Call Back just made it impossible but I might consider it next year,” he told the Irish Sun.
