Jamie Heaslip opens up on internet trolls: 'I just avoid it'

Rugby star Jamie Heaslip has admitted he tries his best to avoid internet trolls.

The Leinster player has opened up about life on and off the rugby pitch, and how he handles haters online.

“I’ll put it this way, you know if you play bad or not,” he admitted.

“You don’t need to have that kind of negative content or a voice being amplified by looking at stuff written about you, podcasts, radio shows or stuff online. I just kind of avoid it,” he told Jarlath Regan on An Irishman Abroad.

The number 8 said his Dad taught him a valuable lesson about the media and coverage written about him.

“If you believe all the good stuff you read about yourself then you’re going to have to believe the bad stuff so, I just avoid anything to do about me and rugby, I just don’t read about it,” he said.

The Israeli born star is gearing up for the Rugby World Cup where Ireland meet Canada in their opening game but admitted he can’t get involved with analysis right now.

“I just can’t allow myself do that now as a player,” he added.
