It's all over: Rory McIlroy ends engagement with Caroline Wozniacki

Golfer Rory McIlroy has brutally ended his engagement with Caroline Wozniacki.

The Northern Irish sports star had became engaged to the Danish tennis player on New Year’s Day after two years together.

But Rory, 25, has now sent out a statement ending the relationship – claiming he couldn’t deal with the idea of marriage just days after sending out invitations.

“There is no right way to end a relationship that has been so important to two people,” he said in a statement.

“The problem is mine. The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realise that I wasn’t ready for all that marriage entails.

“I wish Caroline all the happiness she deserves and thank her for the great times we’ve had. I will not be saying anything more about our relationship in any setting.”

The sporting couple were due to get married on November 8 in New York.

Invitations had been sent to friends in Northern Ireland and Denmark, as well as celebrities including former US President Bill Clinton.
