RTE legend Gay Byrne has admitted he hates going to court – and could “certainly do without” being sued for €2million.
The Irish Bank Resolution Corporation last week launched the multi-million euro legal action against the former Late Late Show host.
The 80-year-old – along with his wife Kathleen and two daughters – are being sued by the bank over debts from a property syndicate he set up.
But speaking for the first time about the major lawsuit which could see him lose everything, Gaybo said he hates having to try and clear his name.

He said: “I am in the situation of probably countless thousands of people around the country in that I am having an argument with a bank.
“They say we owe them money and we say we don’t owe them money. And it’s just that kind of situation. I hate getting involved in the legal system. I hate going to court.
“I hate having to do it. I could certainly well do without it at my age and so could Kathleen and the girls and so on but this is the only way we can go.
“And because it is a legal case pending I am forbidden to speak further about it and that’s the situation.”

Speaking on the Ray D’Arcy Show, Gay added that he feels working freelance for RTE means he could be sacked at any moment.
He added: “That’s why we find it so hilariously funny to see the emoluments going to Irish Water people and the bonuses paid out whether they are competent or not.
“Whereas you know and I know our heads were on the block every week. Every week. Every seven days.”
It is just another financial woe for Gay, who said in 2011 he was forced to return to work because his pension had been wiped out and investments were under pressure.
While in the 1980s, his financial advisor stole most of his savings.
