Everyone is saying the same thing about Lyra following her appearance on The Late Late Show

Lyra won the hearts of the nation during her appearance on The Late Late Show on Friday night.

The Cork singer, who is known for her extravagant and stylish stage outfits, appeared on the programme to promote her new self-titled album, which was released earlier that day.

Speaking to host Patrick Kielty, the 30-year-old recalled the early days of her music career when people told her to lose weight and tone down her accent in order to be commercially successful in the pop industry.

Thankfully, the Bandon native decided not to conform to the music industry’s norms, and is now “so much happier”.

Looking back at that time, Lyra confessed: “I was miserable. I was the size of a microphone, I’d say and I had no energy in me.”

“So I was like, ‘This is it now. I’m going to put these thigh-high boots on, I’m taking the long road. I’m going to have a good old bacon sandwich and I’m going to go hell for leather.’ And you know what, I’m so much happier and I’ve written so much better material.”

Speaking about her new album, simply titled Lyra, the songstress revealed it contains a few songs inspired by her ex.

“There is a good few about him. I haven’t got the phone call. The last time that fella rang me was to dump me over the phone so he’s been blocked since that,” she said, causing the audience to burst out laughing.

“It is a no-go area. WhatsApp blocked… I do let him look at the Lyra page because it’s so juicy. I’m like ‘look at me now. Look at me now’.”

Fellow guest Marian Keyes then interjected: “We all have to go through it, it’s a phase in our development…”

Lyra replied: “You have to kiss the frogs, we’ve all bit taught that. You have to kiss the frogs to get the princes. Some men are lovely, you can’t bash them all. I’m sure there’s lovely dads and brothers out there and they’re doing great!”

It’s safe to say viewers fell in love with Lyra during her time on the show, and took to social media to brand her a “breath of fresh air”.

The Cork native was also dubbed a “gas woman”, and a great role model for young women.
