Devastated Caroline Wozniacki suffering 'hard time' after shock split

Distraught Caroline Wozniacki has broken her silence on her split from Rory McIlroy, admitting: “It’s a hard time for me.”

The Danish tennis player is understood to have been stunned when the Northern Irish golf star told her he wasn’t ready for marriage.

Yesterday, Rory released a statement through his PR company claiming he “wasn’t ready for all that marriage entails”.

Now Caroline, 23, has thanked her fans on Twitter for supporting her – bizarrely saying how happy she is to support Liverpool football club.

“It’s a hard time for me right now. Thanks for all the sweet messages,” she said.

“Happy I support Liverpool right now because I know I’ll never walk alone.”

Meanwhile it has emerged that Rory, 25, won’t be asking for his €150,000 eight-carot engagement ring back.

“He will be letting her keep the ring after the split. He wants to try to keep things amicable between them and he has no intention of asking for it back,” a source said.

Ring: Rory doesn’t want the €150,000 rock back

“When he proposed, he meant it with all his heart and it’s just unfortunate how things turned out.

“They were together nearly three years and that time meant a lot to him so he would like to see her keep the ring.”

Rory had became engaged to the Caroline on New Year’s Day after two years together.

The sporting couple were due to get married on November 8 in New York.

Invitations had been sent to friends in Northern Ireland and Denmark, as well as celebrities including former US President Bill Clinton.
