Conor McGregor has officially apologised to Gardai, after posting a photo wearing a balaclava and holding a gun.

Gards had confirmed they were investigating the UFC champion, after posting the controversial photo on his Instagram account.

But he has now apologised for the picture and insisted he was rehearsing for a new movie role

“Media instigators/An Garda Siochana. I apologise for having the air-soft in public. I was simply rehearsing for a potential upcoming film role,” he wrote on his official Facebook page.

“I understand that the more traffic a story can get the more revenue it generates. So I understand and respect that the media must create these stories and these situations even if at times it is at other people’s expense,” he added.

“We’ve all got to eat. And I eat well. So I will not complain.”

The Dublin fighter also thanked Rolling Stone magazine in the same post, for naming him one of the Top 25 Sex Symbols in the world.

“My Mother will be delighted and proud,” he wrote.
