Bláthnaid Treacy has revealed she returned to work just seven weeks after having a baby “because she had to”.
The radio presenter welcomed her first child, a daughter named Nancy, with her husband Charlie Moon last June.
The mother-of-one spoke to the Sunday Times about the reality of returning to work when her baby was still so young.
The 2FM star admitted it was something she didn’t want to do, but felt like she had to.
Bláthnaid said: “I absolutely would have loved to not have gone back so quickly but I’m freelance. So yeah, c’est la vie! I went back early because I had to.”
The 35-year-old confessed looking back, it was extremely early to return to work and she may have done things differently knowing what she knows now.
She said: “It was very, very soon and now I’m, like, that was crazy. But you live and learn; I’d never been a parent before.
“I asked my colleagues in 2fm about how soon they went back, and Jen Zamparelli told me she took a short maternity leave on her first pregnancy, but for her second, she took the full nine months. I totally get that now.”
Gushing over her baby girl, who is now nine months old, Bláthnaid said: “Nancy is so funny and the best part is getting to know her personality as the months progress.”
The radio presenter is one of the ambassadors for this year’s Darkness Into Light, taking place on May 11, and she’s very aware of the importance of looking after her own mental health.
She admitted that adapting to motherhood has meant her mental health definitely “took a bang.”
She opened up that there have been some tough days due to lack of sleep, but her mental health has been something she’s been working on and will continue to work on.
Bláthnaid and her longterm love Charlie got engaged on a romantic trip to Mexico back in 2018, and tied the knot the following June.
The couple married in front of 120 guests in an intimate ceremony in the Wicklow mountains.
