Andrew Scott opens up about the heartbreaking loss of his mother

Andrew Scott has opened up about the heartbreaking loss of his mother, which has made his recent success “bittersweet”.

The Irish actor’s beloved mum Nora sadly passed away in March, following a short illness.

The Dublin native has since paid tribute to his late mother and said: “She was the source of practically every joyful thing in my life.”

Andrew opened up about his recent loss to the Sunday Times, and said: “Well, you know, you have to — life goes on, you manage it day by day.

“It’s very recent, but I certainly can say that so much of it is surprising and unique, and there is so much that I will be able to speak about at some point.”

He then admitted he’s trying to remain positive and keep himself busy, but his accomplishments have been bittersweet since his mother’s passing.

The actor has received huge praise for his on-screen performances, most recently his role as Tom Ripley in the Netflix adaptation of The Talented Mr. Ripley from Patricia Highsmith.

Previously, he won a BAFTA Television Award and two Laurence Olivier Awards, and has been nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award and two Golden Globe Awards previously.

The Irish star confessed that his mum was an inspiration for him to experiment with fashion.

He revealed: “My mother was an art teacher, she was obsessed with all sorts of design. She loved jewellery and jewellery design.”

“Anything that is visual, tactile, painting, drawing, is a big passion of mine, so I have tremendous respect for the creativity of designers.”

During the same interview, Andrew also praised Paul Mescal for being a “wonderful friend”, following the death of his mother.

“I adore Paul,” he told the newspaper.

“Obviously it’s been a tough time recently and he just continues to be a wonderful friend. It’s everything.”

The pair starred opposite each other in the critically acclaimed film, All Of Us Strangers.
